Overview

This 10 hour course will review the American Avalanche Association Training curriculum, companion rescue proficiency, recent industry curriculum updates, and continuing education topics.

  • Sunday 7am-5pm  Arrive in your gear with your Sled loaded and fueled ready to ride.  After a classroom review we will hit the field.

Course Prerequisite:

  • Have a snowmible or snowbike in good running condition.
  • Three antenna avalanche transceiver. Less than 3-year old.
  • Metal shovel with an extendable handle
  • 3-meter Probe
  • Backpack with avalanche rescue compartment.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Access local avalanche bulletin and learn to understand & apply.
  • Describe where and why avalanches occur. Key components for formation.
  • Human Factors. Identify & apply simple decision tools to prepare for traveling in avalanche terrain.
  • Apply risk management tools: safety equipment, trailhead checks, and communication.
  • Learn procedures for Basic Companion Rescue: Skills Practical
  • Make key observations for snowpack and weather.
  • Identify avalanche terrain in the field.
